WITH SPECIAL GUEST, DOIMNIC MAC GIOLLA BHRÍDE

Singing Session with special guest, Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde

Special guest Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde features in the 5th of our series of online traditional singing sessions, hosted on Zoom and streamed live online.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and necessary social distancing measures, we invite traditional singers to join a Zoom conference call to share songs from the comfort of one's own home anywhere in the world. The sessions will take place in monthly instalments on the first Saturday of the month and will feature songs 'from the floor' and from an invited guest singer.

Sean-nós singer Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhride hails from the Donegal Gaeltacht. Winner of the prestigious Corn Uí Riada, he has released five CDs, the latest winning NÓS album of the year in 2016 for his melodic compositions to ancient Gaelic poetry. He also plays uillean pipes, accordion and piano, bringing unique arrangements to his singing. Dedicated to developing Gaelic language and song he has also produced two songbooks for children, and directs Gaelic choirs in Belfast and Gaoth Dobhair.

Is as Gaeltacht cheolmhar Thír Chonaill Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde. Is ceoltóir sean-nóis é go príomha (a bhua Corn Uí Riada in 2009) ach is cumadóir ceoil é chomh maith a sheinneann cáirdín piano agus píb uilleann. Tá cúig dhlúthdhiosca éisithe aige, chomh maith le dhá leabhar/CD do pháistí - Ící Pící agus Polcaphonc. Tá sé ina stiúiritheoir ar Chór Loch Laoi i mBéal Feirste agus Cór Thaobh a’ Leithid i nGaoth Dobhair.

Our host is Macdara Yeates, a traditional singer, composer and producer from Dublin. Macdara has toured internationally both as a solo artist and with folk ensemble Skipper’s Alley, collaborated with award-winning theatre companies THEATREclub and Mouth on Fire, and produced work in association with Aiken Promotions, The St. Patrick's Festival, The Dublin Port Company and more.
