The centre is named after Seamus Ennis an Irish musician and folklorist who passed away in 1982. He was born in 1919 and grew up in a family of traditional Irish musicians. Ennis was a talented musician who played the uilleann pipes, a type of Irish bagpipe, as well as the tin whistle and the fiddle. He was also a skilled singer and songwriter.
