Middle-aged filmmaker Julie has brought her elderly mother Rosalind to a mysterious country hotel for a short break. Julie is trying to make a film about her mother’s life - the building used to be Rosalind’s home during the war, and Julie is hoping that staying there will help her mother remember and share details from her past. However the location not only holds fond memories for Rosalind, but also long-buried secrets…

Featuring an extraordinary turn from frequent collaborator Tilda Swinton, director Joanna Hogg (The Souvenir) uses the eerie setting to explore themes of memory, grief and the complex yet moving relationship that can exist between a parent and child.
