Our 6th artist to be featured in our Open to Art series is Botanical Artist Yanny Petters.
Yanny exhibited with us in the Easter Snow Gallery in 2018.
Yanny Petters has been painting detailed portraits of wild plants since the 1990s. Her love and interest in botanical art stemmed from her work as a sign-writer, where plant themes were common in decorative design.
Her paintings are in a number of important collections including the Dr. Shirley Sherwood Collection at Kew Gardens, London and the Office of Public Works, in Wicklow Mountains National Park and the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin.
She was recently awarded a Merit by the Golden Fleece Award. She is a member of the Irish Society of Botanical Artists, the Water Colour Society of Ireland and the Dublin Painting & Sketching Club.
Yanny is represented by the Olivier Cornet Gallery in Great Denmark Street, Dublin.
Yanny has been doing a lot of sketching along the hedgerows and has produced a number of large scale drawings as well as paintings on glass and watercolours. “I wanted to record the seasons in a hedgerow, as with the effects of climate change these icons of the Irish countryside may change in many ways over the coming years. My aim is to raise awareness about the precious
wild plants around us which we all too easily take for granted.” – Yanny Petters
